New Faculty: Beyond the Classroom

To gain a broader view of AU’s campus culture and its direction, read the strategic plan. You can become involved on campus through the faculty senate or several affinity groups available for faculty and staff to join. Also, as you plan future research and seek funding, take advantage of grant administration resources on campus.

AU offers various services to students beyond the classroom. As a professor, you can partner with the career center to promote experiential learning or internship opportunities. Encourage civic engagement with the DC community via community service and community-based research and learning. The Center for Diversity & Inclusion office also offers valuable resources.

Working to keep life balanced, you may be interested in recreational sports and fitness opportunities on campus; view membership prices for the Jacobs Fitness Center. Various spiritual offerings are also available at Kay Spiritual Life Center. Environmentally, learn more about sustainability at AU and set an example for your students and other faculty by applying to be a certified “green” teacher at AU.
