Morning Plenary

Corbin Campbell (Associate Dean of Academic Affairs & Associate Professor, School of Education)

Location: Mary Graydon Center 2-5

Time: 8:30 a.m. – 9:15 a.m.

DESCRIPTION: Expecting the Unexpected: Exemplary College Teaching Happening in Unusual Spaces

What is good college teaching? Where does good college teaching happen and for whom? Using observational data from 700+ courses across 9 colleges and universities, this plenary will map the terrain of good college teaching in the U.S., considering the institutional, disciplinary, course, faculty, and student contexts where good college teaching is found.  These data will serve as a backdrop for a discussion of how teaching is situated in the prestige structure in higher education for both institutions and faculty, and ultimately, what it takes to be a Teaching-Supportive Institution.
