Join this session.

Date: Wednesday, August 16

Time: 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.

Presenter: Arianna Lopez (Assistant Director, Global Learning & Leadership, Center for Community Engagement and Services)

Session Description:

The AltBreak Program is a student-driven initiative that offers domestic and global experiential service-learning opportunities addressing critical social issues over the academic breaks. We seek faculty and staff to mentor student leaders to design, develop, and facilitate high-impact community engagement and action. A variety of commitment levels are required for our volunteer roles, some including opportunities for travel!

Learning Outcomes:

  • Recognize the philosophy of Alternative Breaks, including: principles of identity-conscious curriculum, asset-based community development, and the community collaborator continuum.
  • Identify the most recent updates to program framework and structure, including new opportunities to collaborate on program ideas with campus centers, departments, and student organizations; creation of an Executive Board that will drive program vision and strategy; and an intentional emphasis on legacy and domestic programming.
  • Identify benefits of engaging with Alternative Breaks in roles such as: Executive Board Advisor, Program Mentor, or Learning Partner.
